Our Mission

The primary goal of the Asian Cardiac Engineering laboratory is to develop practical engineering solutions to cardiovascular problems, which will improve patient quality of life and health care outcomes. The laboratory originated out of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Malaya in 2011. A team of dedicated researchers and graduated students now work on various projects including collaborators from University Malaya Medical Centre, National Heart Institute Malaysia, University Teknologi Malaysia, Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of New South Wales, The University of Queensland and Texas Heart Institute.

1. Minimize cost and time for cardiovascular disease management, by

    a. Providing cost-effective, simple and quick solutions for early cardiac diagnostics and

        treatment.

    b. Sharing resources among collaborating institutions to expedite research progress

        while minimizing research time and cost.

    c. Designing research projects in a way to directly benefit the society during the research

        study period.

2. Ensure timely graduation of postgraduate students with excellent research quality, by

    a. Designing and implementing an efficient student supervision system.

    b. Providing abundant opportunities for student attachments in world class institutes, trainings

        and joint supervisions.

    c. Modularizing research output to facilitate sharing and continuation of knowledge.

Our lab, our 2nd home

Our research students renovated our own lab to save cost.

Students started working in the new lab after we moved in all furniture and computers.

Our industrial partner from Australia helped us to set up the mock circulatory system for testing artificial hearts.
Set up was completed. Students were taught how to operate the sophisticated system.

Clay Graduation System (CGS) maximizes the capability of each student with minimal resources and expertise

 

Motivated by her experience in UNSW, Dr Lim Einly has created the Clay Graduation System (CGS) which maximizes the capability of each student with minimal resources and expertise.

The rapid growth of the Asian Cardiac Engineering lab over the past 3 years since its establishment has proven that CGS is particularly useful for developing countries with limited resources and expertise.

The main concept of CGS is to break down each research project into sub-modules, and customize each module to fit the expertise of each individual postgraduate student. postgraduate student.

Following the success, Dr Lim has been nominated for the Asean Young Scientist & Technologist Award 2014.
